ADS Make Local, National & International Connections

“When I started this business the dream was to survive the first year and then maybe go for year 2,” said Mark McClung, President of Active Data Systems (ADS).  He never imagined that he’d still be around over 28 years later with customers all across the United States and business partners throughout the world. 

He added, “It has a lot to do with the business we’re in (Document Management Solutions) and the ease of  communications that allows us to be connected to people across town and around the world.”

McClung says Active Data Systems prides itself with being able to run fairly lean and at the same time have developed processes and relationships in way that “leanness” does not limit their growth.  “Presently we have ten employees that are physically in our building; however, we partner with so many other organizations that we operate as if we have a hundred, says McClung.

As North American distributors for Spielberg Solutions (a German document management software developer), ADS partners with MES Hybrid Document Systems in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for planning, development, sales, training and support.  “They have 35 employees, some with specialties in areas that our staff do not,” noted McClung.  Much of the support, training and sales work that ADS does can now be done online eliminating the obstacles of time and distance.  In a fast changing world of the technology of document management partnering with organizations, such as MES, allows to grow, adapt, and when necessary change directions without being overburdened by infrastructure and debt commonly associated with those factors.

Founded in 1971, MES Hybrid Document Systems has been supplying and supporting such solutions for nearly 40 years in public and private organizations across Canada. MES offers everything from consulting, conversion services, hardware solutions and electronic/analogue document management systems.

ADS’s partnership with Spielberg Solutions not only provides them with a company with many years experience in data and document management, but allows them to have critical access to product development.  “We’re able to discuss special needs of our customers regarding how the product works directly with the developers,” says McClung.  He added, “We’re talking with the Spielberg people on nearly a daily basis.

Spielberg was founded over 40 years ago, initially establishing itself as one of the German market leaders for maintaining and servicing IBM punch-card systems. Over time, the company developed with the growth in information technology, and soon possessed comprehensive knowledge and expertise in interfaces for data and document management systems.

In addition to MES and Spielberg, ADS partners with many other organizations, both locally and on a national basis.  “We tend to answer the question, ‘How big are you?’, in today’s world of who we need to work with to get the job done for our customers whether they are in Faith or Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lincoln, Nebraska or Anchorage, Alaska,” summed up McClung.
